Rather than produce dramatic historical narratives (as was the fashion of the day), The Brotherhood adhered to an inflexible set of puritanical and aesthetic standards of which Rossetti soon tired. The Brotherhood challenged the "decadent" indulgences of the day by looking for inspiration and religious guidance in medieval art. ![]() Recognized by history as an inspired but provocative nonconformist, Dante Gabriel Rossetti made his name initially as a founding member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. ![]()

American queen simone5/8/2023 ![]() ![]() European beauty standards, colorism, and all of the ‘ism’s tied to women factor into how Black women’s hair is a high and popular point of contention and criticism - especially within our respective communities. This was done with Rihanna when she rocked half-done braids and now again with Biles. There seems to be a common theme of negatively expounding on Black women’s features. Instead, on Beyonce‘s internet humanity is making yet another case as to why Queen Bey does not engage with the masses. The main focus should be on how glowing her skin was or the fact that she married the love of her life. Many have been hellbent on the texture and styling of her tresses - making unnecessary space for texturism. This isn’t the first time the four-time Olympic gold medalist gymnast has been in the pop culture “news” about her hair. ![]()

Of course, everyone thinks it's Emma Paxton but the truth comes out and Emma is public enemy number one. ![]() ![]() As a child, he should have traveled the Middle Passage on deck, unfettered with the slave women and children. ![]() What is particularly important about this source, however, is Equiano's placement into the hold of the slave ship. For Equiano, a child of 11, this experience was one he could not understand. Many Africans who survived the coffles and made their way to the coast had never seen a white man, let alone the ocean or a slave ship. His narrative is extremely valuable not only for the wealth of information it presents on children's experiences in the slave trade, but also for those examining the abolitionist movement in England during this period of time. Olaudah Equiano, kidnapped at age 11, became one of the most prominent English abolitionists of the 18th century. Until recently, slave studies rarely discussed children's experiences, but it has been estimated that one quarter of the slaves who crossed the Atlantic were children. From the 16th to the 18th centuries, an estimated 20 million Africans crossed the Atlantic to the Americas in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. ![]()
